Zero, Stanley and The Warden are three people that I think are interesting and play a big role in this book. In the same way, Gerald Prince posits a "narratee", Michael Riffaterre posits a "superreader", and Stanley Fish an "informed reader.

Each emergent reader practices several sight words and reinforces concepts such as days of the week, positional words, number words, nouns, verbs, questions, quotations, main idea and details, and sequencing.

I have also included two matching activities, where students will cut and paste positional words to match pictures. Since reader-response critics focus on the strategies readers are taught to use, they may address the teaching of reading and literature.
